BIOGRAPHY

Falco was born as Johann (Hans) Hölzel on February 19th, 1957 in Vienna, district of Margareten. He survived as the only one of triplets. According to him they had given him the power for more than only a single life. His life in the 80s proves what he wanted to say with that.

After his parents separated he grew up with his mother and grandmother. At the age of 16 he left school and took several jobs. He began to play the bass guitar and found his love for rock music while he was doing his alternative service as it was the trend in the 70s. A short time as a student at the Vienna School of Music was important for him to become a musician. At this time Hans Hölzel didn’t know what his type of music would do in the future. Hans Hölzel would make a revolution in the music scene and his special way of singing would make rap widely accepted.

Hans turns into FALCO

Half a year at the Vienna School of Music gave Hans Hölzel the feeling that he wanted to be a professional musician. He played in any kind of band projects (his first band was called "Umspannwerk") and gave him a chance in the music scene in Westberlin. In 1977 Hans Hölzel began to call himself Falco. The reason for his pseudonym is the former GDR ski jumper Falko Weispflog, who fascinated him. At this time his big career started. (At a "Drahdiwaberl-Gig" in Munich he wanted to be called FALCO GOD AERA and at the next day he called himself FALCO.)
