Inspired by David Bowie

Now the time was the 70s and everybody who could hold a guitar, formed a band. At this time David Bowie published his songs "Low", "Heroes" and "Lodger". These songs gave Hans Hölzel the right feeling for the music. At the same time rap music was played for the first time on the "Neuen Deutschen Welle" and this also helped Hans Hölzl with his music.

Back in Vienna Falco produced the chamberband "Spinning Wheel" with other popular Viennese musicians. With this band he opened the "First Vienna Music Theatre" (later "Hallucination Company") and it boomed at the end of the 70s, especially in Vienna. Then he was bass player and singer in the "chaotic group" "Drahhdiwaberl".

Bass players normally are in the background but Falco‘s solo "Ganz Wien" was a cult hit in the New Wave scene. This song is also on his album "Einzelhaft". No other song from Austria took up the issue of Vienna in the 80s as well as Falco’s song "Ganz Wien". In his songs Hans Hölzel interchanged English, Italian and Viennese words. Falco was the corporate identity of himself.

"Der Kommissar" became a worldhit

With his first single "Einzelhaft" he had his commercial and international breakthrough. With all cover versions he sold 7 million singles of "Der Kommissar". In France he sold 750.000 singles. This brought about a major change in the Austropop scene. The new musician had nothing in common with the former archetype of Austrian musicians before. The next LP "Junge Römer" was well received by the critics, but it wasn’t as good as "Einzelhaft". "Junge Römer" is an LP with good dancebeats and we believe it to be absolutely genial.
